...I've just read this sentence in the course of my day's travails:

In this case, Cox–Merz cannot be applied due to stronger perturbation of the loose network in the flow experiments.

I've no idea what it means but am better informed!

Being a sail maker I get this all the time. For racing sails there are some very exacting criterea. My Danish collegues bring me the rules for making the sail. Expecting me to tell them what it means. I can always read all of the words but often have no idea what the sentence means.

Indeed! I have a reasonable if fundamental understanding of rheology but there are depths to which I really don't need to plumb....

Simply put, the steady state shear viscosity at a given shear rate is equal to the dynamic viscosity at the same frequency:
h( \dot \gamma ) = h*(w) when \dot \gamma = w
