Any of you rock stars have any recommendations for a good guitar for Elder Noodlette?

Nothing too expensive, but good enough for her to learn without it falling to bits or the strings ending up like spaghetti.

Well mate, as with bikes, the best think is to get down to a music store, try a few out. So many to choose from and like bikes all have their own individual style, sizing, feel etc.

Tanglewood make good acoustic guitars for very reasonable prices...

...yamaha also make good (but a bit dull...sort of the Ford Focus of acoustics if you ask me) guitars that are good VFM.

At the top range you could buy him a Martin...but I think you'd cry (and renew the mortgage) if young Noodley managed to break it!

Er, unfortunately unlike bikes I could not try out a guitar. Reason: I would not know how to. I ain't worried about feel or style, etc just something for her to learn on.

The fretboard on a cheap acoustic will be too big for her hands.

Rather than a full electric - with noisy amp - I'd suggest a pignose guitar, with built in battery powered amp. If she doesn't like it you can sell it on ebay. You can probably buy one on ebay.

for sure I fully understand that Noodley, however if your little one (or you) are serious about her learning guitar, the you need the best you can afford. So get down to a music store and get some advice. Better in the long run.
But then of course, you can always buy a cheapo jobbie... as she may give it up after a couple of weeks... as my son did..

I'll +1 on the get down to your local Musical instrument emporium and ask for their recommendation.

I learned on a guitar that was found in a skip but I was so keen to learn that that was no matter, guitars are very like bikes in the cost over quality issues and fit so I would suggest you might be wanting to spend up to £100 and see how she gets on.
As long as it's well looked after it should still hold some of it's value.

There is not an abundance of music shops where we live and those I know of are fairly crap (I have to order her reeds for her oboe online since none of them within easy distance stock them). I am just looking for pointers so when I do get round to making visits I know a little bit more than nothing.

I'm totally non musical but LIDL have a couple of electric and a single acoustic guitar and a few other music bit w.e.f. 30/Oct

I love Yamaha stuff, their bikes and their instruments.

Unsurprsingly, I bought a Yamaha when I wanted a guitar, it's a CPX5 CS and it sounds amazing for the money I paid for it
As above though, the tanglewoods were pretty good, I was just taken by the feel of the Yam, and the sound.

5 Years later and its still like new, although I do look after it

She is left handed but says she has played the guitar at school right handed...but maybe only as they only have right handed guitars. I suppose I should get her down to a music shop.

It really is the best thing, guitars are such personal things, probably more so than any other instrument......
