When I worked for the paper, I wrote a piece for the international news page on April 1.
In it, I reported how the European Commission were banning the hoaxing custom which was peculiar only to this country, to bring Britain into line with Europe. Can't remember exactly what I wrote, but it was enough to generate some irate letters from readers.
I thought that the Euro Commissioner's name I used would have given it away, Mme Avril Fou.
