It was back in the 1990's sometime I was there, as I said its a expensive tourist trap nowadays from what people say. You were there 20 years too late

Ha - that's what people say about everywhere I go!

We went at the start of December, so weather was mild and no crowds (or cruise ships). Found it quite affordable generally; we stuck to bars a few alleyways away from the real glamour spots. Amazing place, would recommend to anyone (before it sinks for good ... )

One of my visits included a 3 day stay at an Italian friends relatives house, bang in the middle of Venice. They even had a small garden!
