Insure on home insurance and check the t&cs and excess. Keep all receipts in case of claim. If a kryp lock is breached and you have the broken bits, they'll pay out up to a certain level. Mini locks through rear triangle and wheel. Chain for front wheel and frame. Mini ones can be like the krypton factor. It's not about the thickness but having as little space for the thief to manoeuvre tools. Also secure away from the ground. There are plenty of online guides on how to lock up the bike. Will you be using a well lit area with CCTV

Are the minis really good though? I know they're thick and strong but I doubt I'll be able to fit my frame + wheel in that.
I use the NY fagh mini to attach the frame. The minis are great because you can't fit a crowbar in them. I also use a 4 ft cable which is about 3 cm in diameter to attach the wheels to the frame & the lock & bike park. Someone would have to bring a pretty big cutter to cut that cable.

I love watching this guy Hal Ruzal, a bike mechanic in NYC, grade people for their bike locking prowess. I learnt a lot from his videos and they are entertaining too.

There really is nothing that will stop a determined thief. If you carried a ladder you could climb lamp posts and thread the front triangle over it but then you'd just get your wheels nicked!
As others have said, buy a cheap runabout if you plan to leave it for more than a few seconds
I've often thought that bike shops could earn a little extra cash by offering secure indoor parking for bikes.

I used the bike radar reviews when I was in the market for new locks. They test the locks quite extesively.

I got the Abus Granit x-Plus D lock:
http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/accessories/locks/product/review-abus--granit-x-plus-10512

and, because it seems to be recomended that you use two different types of lock (so theives have to use two different types of tool) I also got an Abus Steel o chain:
http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/categ...t/review-abus--steel-o-chain-81085-lock-14868

The steel o chain is very heavy, but I do have to leave my bike in city centres etc on occasons, so I think it's worth the weight for the peace of mind.
