I don't get the harking back - most cars looked terrible back then, save for a very few and even then they're acquired tastes.
Modern cars look amazing by comparison.
Beauty is phased by history, companies don't sell cars that look vintage because no one would buy them.
Can't agree with you there. VW beetle, Fiat 500, sell because of the retro looks, and most companies try to keep some element of previous models looks in their new designs. Most modern cars are samey to me, a result of computer design, crash regulations and wind tunnels to improve fuel consumption.
Oh, forgot to add Porsche to that list too.

The art and design put in these days is far beyond anything back then.
Even a mid range Alfa today beats 99% of the rest of history in looks.
Alfa (and Citroen) do seem to try and be different 8C/4C spider and Brera I'd agree with but Mito and Guilitta not so much.
And I'm biased as I've got a bit of an Alfa problem
