Rowntrees Cafe on the edge of The Arndale Centre. Simple English breakfast etc. Sit and be watched by bygone Coronation Street Stars.
This is where i ended up this morning... and a fine breakfast it was too (for the money). The mug of tea was delivered with the breakfast rather than 15 minutes beforehand, which was nice, and they even kept the beans separate from the egg :notworthy:

The night before we dined in the cheap and cheerful This & That café...

Plastic plates, hard benches, no napkins, no frills.
But an excellent curry for little more than a fiver, and the biggest onion bhaji I've ever seen!

more of a Tuesday/Wednesday break but yes, I did thank you :okay:

@fossyant... didn't feel in danger of a late night fight from the FAC251 punters, but the deep throbbing bass (on a Tuesday night?!) might have kept me awake had I not been somewhat tanked up. It served my needs adequately but I would not recommend that Ibis for a business trip.

There is a Premier inn further up on top of the car park - that's totally quiet, and has good views.

Bloody love This & That! Introduced to it by my kids who were both students in Manchester.

best bet is to not mention it on social media, otherwise everyone will know and it'll no longer be Manchester's best kept secret

Quite, excusing a certain 'closed road', The Washouse is crap now, too commercialised and too big, and the cocktails aren't a patch on what it was. Really disapointed when we went in recently.

Typical yorkshireman... always late to the party.

you've missed it and we've all gone home ^_^

Actually my father’s family roots were the potteries , my mothers side is Yorkshire, but I was brought up in the south of Greater Manchester. I’m sure the central Manchester of my youth is no more and the “new” Arndale centre long gone.

thanks for that - will get it onto my garmin (Etrex so I use it walkng around as well) for next time I'm in Manchester.
Love the address - Soap Street. God knows what would happen to that name if the area was ever redeveloped a la London where Surrey Docks became Surrey Quays.
