Cyclescheme time!

I've got £1000 to spend - Cyclescheme say that I can purchase up to two bikes under the £1000 limit, but they have to be from the same retailer.

I'm thinking I need something to whizz around on the commute - something light and fast, probably a single speed (I'm in london) but that I won't mind leaving locked up in public.

And I want something I can take out on the occasional tour. I don't do much Sunday riding (apart from Summer time) but a couple of times a year I try and do a big cycle abroad.

I previously had a Giant defy 4 2015 but the frame has cracked which I used for the long rides and a peugeot single speed for the commutes but the fork is damaged. I loved the defy but the peugeot was too slow for the commute I thought.

What would you recommend then for what I want? I was thinking an ex-display pinnacle single speed 2017 model for £375 and the Specialised Allez 2018 for £600 from evans. But the pinnacle wasn't in my size. I'm 6' 1'.

I've also got a raleigh 5-speed which I use to commute on at the moment which means I probably don't need a good single speed (even though I want one!) so also keen to hear recommendations for sacking off the ss and just going for the best road bike I can get for under £1000?

Maybe see what Evans have in their sale after Xmas?

If you go for an Allez mske sure they've sorted the fork if affected by the recall

I'd just get a Genesis equilibrium myself

I can heartily vouch for the Allez. I had mine for commuting for 10 years and would've kept it for 10 more if it hadn't been written off in a crash. As mentioned above, make sure that the bike is fixed w.r.t. the recall.

I think the OP has made a decision, one bike, not Specialized ;)

Yep - a new Genesis owner was born.

I think you need to decide which bike you will use the most. If you'll use the single speed the least I would buy a used good quality one for cheap, this will save your money to concentrate on a really nice road bike with; or vice a versa.

He bought a Genesis equilibrium as he says above
