Best small pump ?

Had a lovely ride today...........had to repair a front wheel puncture
no great problem but my small cheap pump took forever to blow the repaired tyre up to about 40 and didnt want to do much more.

Any advice on a good small pump or are they all much of a muchness?

A Blackburn 'Shorty' is the one I would recommend.

Blackburn Airstick 2-stage - it's silly small (170mm x about 20mm diameter), but nevertheless pumps up to 120psi (which is as far as I go) remarkably quickly. It has a wee switch for 'hi volume' and 'hi pressure', so you set it to 'hi volume' until it gets hard work, then change to 'hi pressure', and Bob's your father's brother.

Best portable pump I've ever had.

Had chance to try out half a dozen of the best ones recently.
I finally settled on the Lezyne Pressure Drive.
Its light weight, fast and beautifully made, you can also get the pen gauge optional hose for it which contains a pressure gauge
