The Garmin also said 4434 kCals.
My calc sheet said TOTAL 2374 kCals.

I've long since ignored what my Garmin says about calories and (even more so) power. After all it does not have a clue what the wind was doing nor how smooth the road surface was and it's altitude figures don't seem too accurate either.

So does the Garmin way over estimate how much calories that you have burned?

As it is delivered, Yes.

I have made the discovery that the 'user definable' Speed Zones effect the Calorie count.

To make the Garmin more like the truth, I have entered some really high speeds in the Zones to fool the Garmin to count less, and set 'Descent' to 18 - 46 mph, with sprint and Max higher than 46 mph.

The speeds YOU enter into each Zone depends on YOUR style of riding. The instructions are as clear as mud, so it's a lot of research and experimentation for those who don't know how many calories SHOULD be being burned

There are TEN Zones, so it will be a long, long process of continuous correcting until every Garmin Edge user is happy with his/her unit.
