I posted this in the MTB section and got 1 helpful reply but thought I may get more help on this section.
My new Hard Tail has very cheap tyres which I want to change.

I will need to ride on the road for 3 miles before I get to any off road** so think I want semi-slicks.
** off road to me is mainly Penine Way/Delamere Forrest...........I will not be jumping of rocks or doing serious stuff (at my age I want to stay alive:eek:)

I read somewhere that it can be best to have slicker tyre on the front and more knobbly on the back.....does that make sense.
Want punture proof and have read that Schwalbe Marathon are good.

Any suggestions welcome.

As I understand it, if you want to go half and half, you should put the semi-slick at the back. That way, the drive wheel (the rear) gets a lower rolling resistance while the front end keeps you planted when in the rough. I had my mtb like that for a bit although to be honest it looked stupid so I changed back to the full knobbles.

Schwalbe marathon Plus seems to be the bomb-proof one everyone talks about, tho I've never used them so can't comment.

What bike did you get in the end?
