Probably Bob Dylan at Brighton about 10-15 years ago. I wasn't particularly bothered about seeing him, but his set was about 2-3 hours of great song followed by great song. I didn't know he had written so many. Even with him singing them differently to what he used to, it was good.

I'd been out on a ride, and took a short cut back through Knebworth Park. Sat on the grass and listened to Big Country for a bit, but didn't see anything as the concert area was all fenced off.
Later that evening, I went back with a few mates. They'd taken the fences down so everyone could get out after the concert, so we wandered in to see the main headline act.
I saw the last ever Queen gig for nothing. :smug:

I'm jealous ;) I remember watching it on an old B&W tv in my bedroom. I think that's where Live Magic was recorded from, great stuff.

Carbon/Silicon at the Inn on the Green at Ladbroke Grove.

Superb...nothing to do with the babe in the short tight dress. (That'll get Greedo to view the link!)

...that close to a legend at such an informal venue. Had a chat with both Mick Jones and Tony James. Really unaffected, down to earth and friendly people.

Here...

I'm jealous as that gig would have been great. Love gigs like that

Wee afore mentioned babe is not too bad indeed either;)

If it was for 'best value' it'd have to be an American singer called Kelly Willis (I know, who?) - she was playing at an outdoor venue in Austin, Texas (it was also a big food and drink fair too).
The people on the gate wouldn't let us in without paying full weekend rate so we were stood watching through the wire fence when a couple came out and said 'if you want to go in have our VIP passes' - freebie city all the way y'all.
She even signed a couple of CDs for us!

Austin for me as well.

I was over for the SXSW festival a couple of years ago. Flights, hotel, internal travel, food, drink & concert pass all paid for. 5 days of solid music from about 12 midday to after midnight. I'm into Americana music and especially Texas based music. I saw many of my favourite artists in their own city over the course of the few days along with many, many new artists to me. A great trip ;)

Rory Gallagher - Defender Tour 1987 at the Hummingbird (now Carling Academy) in Brum. £7 a ticket. Support act didn't turn up so Rory did 3hrs (with help from Tony Mcphee from the Groundhogs for the last 30 mins or so).

£7.50, 4th August 1979, Knebworth. The most memorable gig that I've ever attended. Even Chas and Dave didn't manage to put a dampener on things. It remains as the biggest gathering of people that I've ever been part of; 100,000 as opposed to the 170,000 - 200,000 that was claimed after the event.

A little known band called Transept at the Norwich Arts Centre. £4 entry, support acts were a medieval country music band, Folk act and then Transept who managed to play 3 songs in 45 minutes. Think lots of feedback, weird Kraftwerk-esque noises and a film of slugs mating.

Weird and wonderful

1991 - INXS at Wembley Stadium. Most bands who used the stadium at the time supplied the bare miniumum as extra but at this concert the first band , which I think was Roachford , came on about at about two and the last note was played at ten ish. For value for money this stands out. Mind you if I saw most of the bands now I'd probably think they were a load of cr*p.

Hmmm...I think Leonard Cohen was the best value, even though the most expensive, faultless. Apart from that, a couple of concerts at Ross On Wye a few years back, got to see The Waterboys and Beth Orton, excellent value. Been to loads of others, and whilst good were still quite dear.

Whereabouts? I have to admit, I'd pay money to avoid the Waterboys, but I'm intrigued as to where they might have played.

My best value gig was probably the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion doing their album "Orange" at Koko's in London as part of the "All Tomorrow's Parties" series of gigs. They did the album - which was brilliant - then came back on and played for another two hours. They were really good, and the fact that I enjoyed it despite suffering from exploding arse due to dodgy mussels the day before speaks volumes.

it was at the International Music Festival in Ross on Wye itself, tents in fields IIRC. Beth orton was great. But the Waterboys were awesome - fair enough if you don't like that kind of thing, but their acoustic set was really excellent. There was all sorts of stuff going on over about a week or so. I think it was in '03.
