Three recent replies from me:

1. No I pray to Beelzibub. (then smile sweetly)

2. Sorry I don't believe in fairies (then smile sweetly)

3. No I'm OK, my little invisible green pixie looks out for me. (hold out open hand and point to invisible green pixie, then smile sweetly)

If they still insist on conversation, address the one who stands at the back with 'So, what do you think?'.

The ones I have spoke with all seem pleasant, decent people - though I disagree with many of their views, I do give them respect.

My mother doesn't like them at all [she does go to church] and is quite offended when they call round. She likes to place 'Give Blood' & 'Poppy Appeal' stickers in the window.
Many years ago, the old man chased one across the lawn with a garden fork as he took him by surprise while he was sorting his spuds out. He didn't come back.

It is true that Jehovah's Witnesses are easy targets for abuse/ridicule/hatred for simply daring to be different.

I say give them a break. Hitler didn't.

Just point out that there are already more than a million JW's in the world and that Jehovah only allocated 144000 seats in heaven and that you're not willing to go on stand-by for the next flight.

Or, just answer the door naked.

Invite them in , then get one of them in a big hug, sniff their hair loudly and sigh really loudly , like your in ecstacy, then, lick the side of their face like a dog !

That should get rid of them .

Sixty percent of the time , it works every time !

Yes a very interesting aspect of the death camps. JW's were just about the only people who were free to leave at any time. All they had to do was sign a statement renouncing thier faith. The fact that the vast majority didnt, and suffered massive deprivation and even death as a result, is a testament to how strong thier faith was. There is a very insightful acount of their treatment in Lawrence Rees' book on austwich.

They may be pleasant but I think people are complaining about the pester factor. if Black tie foods knock on my door one more time and ask me if I want to order food I'm going to get some food and shove it.......By the way, technically darwin's theories are in fact theories and are not scientific fact, just to stir a bit.

They're not bad people.

And there you have it.

They are doing what their faith wants them to do.

I live next door but one to a JW couple (in their 70s) and also have 2 families of JWs in the street, one of which I worked with for 15 years until he got cancer and retired.

Jack knows that we are a same sex couple but he never disrespects us (knowingly).... so as a humanist, I give them the same respect as I would any human being.

He has said that we could be 'cured' one time. But, why get funny when we know that is only his belief and not based on fact? We swap plants and veg and they know that we are there for them and his wife if ever they needed our help. We also get the WatchTower etc....

PB. Sit down with them and discuss if you feel you can, just don't take the piss as it is a faith. Just my pink pound.

As I live at the end of a cul de sac you can see them, looking like families with children, and looking smart in long coats, so I either just don't open the door or just tell them I'm not interested as usually you have a bit of warning.

I may be talking out of term but the JW faith deserves the same respect as any.

If we were taking the mick out of Islam or Catholism, I feel it would be looked on in a different manner.

PB asked about the people knocking the door, not the faith.
