I might start knocking on doors wearing a large false beard, clutching a copy of Origin Of Species. Someone needs to do it.

Dave Davenport said:I don't feel bad about having a go at JW's as I think they actually do some harm. A mate of mine's mum got converted, it spilt the family up and she ended up chucking herself under a train.
I used to work with a bloke who was full on JW, one time we were asked to do a 3 year business plan. He wrote on his section 'a 3 year plan is irrelevant due to the cataclysmic events about to engulf the world'. Funny thing was he still paid enhanced contributions into the company pension plan.
Dave Davenport said:You might well be right. Did you see the Darwin programme with Richard Dawkins the other night when he had a British school teacher who was totally convinced the earth was less than 10 thousand years old, all the scientific evidence didn't matter as he had 'faith in the bible', scary.

Light years... yeah, very problematic... a really, really, really big distance... it's a bugger to understand.jpembroke said:Had a colleague like that. He was a good programmer and had a decent understanding of maths and physics. He admitted that things like Doppler Shift and light years caused him problems but he just had to ignore them as Bible was the truth. Scary indeed.

PaulB said:Just had two at the door (again!) who were very persistent. They obviously sent out the big guns today. Anyway, I had a bit of time so questioned them on how long humans have been here and of course they reckon it's just about 6,000 years as it says so in the bible. When I told them that was preposterous they tried to convince me it wasn't! As I never got to see Queen Victoria, they asked, how could I be sure she was real? Therefore, how do I know Darwin's theories (and they claimed them to still be "theories"!) were anything but fairy stories? I was lost for words with their stupidity and resolved there and then to never get into discussions with these clearly mad people ever again but how do you go about politely shutting the door in their faces?
