With junior football cancelled, again and the Mrs Heisenberg not working Sunday then Wednesday nights' BBC website forecast convinced me that Sunday was the winter cycling holy grail. Clear blue skies, dry roads and single digit temperatures. Right, that Kidstone Pass, Buttertubs, Grassington (Yorkshire Dales: 75 miles) loop is sooo ON! I've been planning it and talking about it for two days. Damn it, I am actually excited!

Check the latest forecast tonight and FFS it's snowing!

Which website / forecast do you guys use for the most accurate prediction? I expect there will be a mix of preferred forecasts, but I imagine a consensus may emerge. That can become my / your "go to" forecast. Allez!

Metcheck or usually the Beeb is accurate as long as check regularly

I use a Norwegian weather site, www.yr.no which until recently has been very accurate (although it did get the timings of the Boxing Day monsoon wrong...).
Click on the flag at the top of the page to set the language to English - it's also available as an app.

Least reliable (in my eyes) is a dead heat between the Met Office and BBC websites...others will no doubt disagree.

Haven't seen that before. Looks better than the BBC.

For UK, mixture of Met Office, XC Weather (for wind) and Meteox for rainfall radar. In France Meteo France are rubbish, Meteociel tend towards pessimism/accuracy.

I think the Met Office's reputation would be improved if they publish the confidence % of their forecasts. If you watch regularly, you can tell the forecasts that they know are likely to come true, and those in which they have less confidence, and they produce a % confidence figure for every forecast, but don't publish it, as when they asked the Great British Public, they said they didn't want to see that figure.

Wow, a big 'flurry' of responses. Pun intended.
I like yr.no, especially with webcams linked up. The only trouble is they show lying snow with more to follow.

Resolutely on topic
I'm fortunate to be able to vary my start and finish times at work +/- an hour or so. I use the Rain Alarm app to see whether to leave early or late. For a longer range forecast it's another vote for yr.no
