I have got a new bike computer, and can't get the sensor or magnet to work to give information to the computer
What part of the transmittor should the sensor be looking at?

All the info should be in the instructions, read them carefully.
From my own experience make sure that the sensor is really close to the spoke magnet, ie 2-3mm when it passes.

It could be faulty, is it new?
Is the display working on the head unit?
Can you post any pics, one of the head unit and one of the sensor and wheel magnet.

Wired or wireless? If wireless, is the battery in the sender okay? Is anything preventing the battery making contact? (there may be a little strip of plastic that is there to disconnect the battery so it doesn't go flat before it's sold).
