Stem length and angle?

Stems have adjustable length? I must be missing something.

So quite - there are a couple of adjustable points, anything more needs new parts/new bike.

£125 is what it costs around my way.

To adjust the seat, cleats, etc should take about half an hour. Plus they get the opportunity to sell you more stuff.

Why would anyone think that is something to be paid for?

Maybe they can adjust the seat and mirrors in my car too...

I paid due to lack of confidence in actually getting the right position to help alleviate some of my aches and pains on the bike and to have someone look at the bike and me on it who is actually used to looking at people objectively on bikes - it's quite hard to do that yourself. First time was Retul, ok and it didn't cost me anything beyond the fit. Second time with cycling physio who had been treating me to that point for knee issues and knew what was going on anatomically - surprisingly didn't suggest any changes beyond adjusting the saddle angle slightly (I had thought it was flat, apparently not), so the Retul fit must have been ok

I don't think I would bother if no chronic injuries to try to manage and if confident in own abilities and patient enough to make micro adjustments to the bike

I certainly wouldn't spend the money trying to get comfortable on the saddle, without looking at saddle shape and size or getting better fitting / quality shorts first (as well as working on posture and core strength, a further frailty with me)

Because it makes an activity they enjoy so much more comfortable and enjoyable? That's why I did it, and it was worth every penny.

I'm sorry - how do you adjust the reach or width of the bars?

You seriously don't know?

There's a wide variety of stems of different lengths and angles available for your bike. Whoever sold it to you should have checked stem length as a minimum. Changing a stem takes 5 minutes.

Handlebars come in different widths to suit your shoulder width.

I have considered a bike fit but I don't suffer any pain other than on my backside.

Over the years I have tuned my position to practically eliminate hand numbness, neck and back pain. I still get a bit of sore neck when I do a particularly long ride but I think that is simply a matter of more training.

A few years ago I was quite happy with brooks saddles but then I spent a year and a bit where a did hardly any riding and after that my Brooks Swallow and Team Pro felt uncomfortable after 20 miles. I still have a B17 that is really comfortable for 20 miles.

The saddles I have been riding for the last 2 years are Specialised Phenom Pro which is good for up to 35 miles. I then bought a Fizik Antares which I liked but I felt I needed a little bit more padding so I recently got the more developed brother

and we are not getting along too well.

No soreness with any of the saddles, simply painful around the sit bones area.

Would a bike fit help? I'm not sure.
