I am 66 years old with a dodgy knee, and wanting to do more miles this year, and was thinking to get a bike fit for my road bike, last time was over 24 years ago.
Was wondering if it is worth the money, and apparently at sigma it is done on a custom jig with dart fish video.
Does that mean I have to pay more for them to adjust my actual road bike as test on their Jig?
Or do they adjust as part of the cost.
Thanks Alan

Just one knee or both?
Do you get knee pain outside cycling?
As soon as you start riding, or after x miles?

I would have thought that they would fit you on their multi adjustable jig . Take lots of measurements and angles and then explain what you would need to do to your bike to replicate that fit.

Ask them ...I bet they will be delighted to explain it all and why it's the best way.

Some thoughts ...

- Saddle height, too low can put a strain on the knees
- shorter crank lengths + higher saddle height may help
- riding a too high a gear. Try and increase your cadence
- shoe cleats not aligned correctly or not enough float
- riding a single speed or fixed can be surprisingly beneficial. If you can't change gear, then you get used to huge variations in cadence and therefore you don't get trapped into riding the wrong cadence for all your journey. If riding gears, restrict yourself to a maximum 70" gear for a while.

Best of luck

If you sign up with a quality fitter you should be asked to take your bike with you. Make sure the fitter is aware of any issues you are experiencing. You should be sat on a jig which is fully adjustable to find your correct position. The fitter should then set your bike up to replicate the jig position. My fitter includes return visits until the fit on the bike is right. I wouldn't use a fitter who doesn't set up the bike and allow for return visits to tweak as needed.

After 24 years and with a dodgy knee you should definitely have one. It is worth it. As an aside I discussed shorter cranks with my fitter. His view is they are only of value if one has a hip impingement.
