Bike has gone to bed for a few days

I'm off work because wife is unwell so the commuter is resting.

But my Trance and Alpinestars MTBs are primed and ready for action round the forest tomorrow in the virgin snow.

Snow is one of the biggest cycling events of the year, something to be embraced and enjoyed, not shied away from.

With only a slick shod road bike in my stable forgive me if I disagree, now if I had a cyclo cross bike that I keep looking at perhaps it would be different.

I'm sorely tempted to sort out my chainless, cable-less old MTB tomorrow with a view to some off road riding over the weekend! Hope Mrs Drago gets well soon.

What you need is more bikes in your stable. I could not live with just one bike and I have 6 of them, two for winter and the rest for good weather! Don't feel guilty though with wimping out, on rare occasions I can just think, sod this I will hitch a lift with a work colleague if the weather is extreme or I am that way out.

Semi-retired the roadie on Tuesday n my MTB came out of dry dock.
This morn in -6 gets to one single track section of the commute to see a guy pushing a tourer, asks if he's ok and he says jut playing it safe... As I head off at a pace just to show off how cushty and safe it was on my Trek.
I just love cycling in this - apart from the freakin' cold that is.

I don't feel guilty,I just dislike the tube,seems a very unfriendly/unhuman place.I've barely missed a cycle commute in the last twenty years.

Me too. I shall be fettling my On-One MTB tomorrow evening and hoping there's fresh snow on Saturday morning Those 2.3" knobblies are so much better than 23mm slicks for some reason?!

If you don't enjoy it, don't do it. To do otherwise would be nuts. I don't see the virtue in suffering so relax and get back on it when the thermometer comes up a bit. I've had to venture out on my bike a couple of times and if I'd had a viable alternative I'd have bloomin well used it.

It does seem that a lot of drivers don't amend their driving style to suit the conditions. Some seem to only slow down when the conditions absolutely force it rather than as a precautionary measure against slipery roads or poor visibility. As if to say "If I can go this fast then I will go this fast"

Took PT this morning, but will be back on the bike come Monday as all the main roads will be cleared. I might even go for a short run on Sunday wearing my xc spikes.

Perhaps they think their tin boxes will protect them which is probably true,I was discussing this with a workmate and he said he had seen them driving down the motorway at 95mph while texting,shocking.

This was a discussion that I had on the 4x4 forum a few years ago. The end result is that I am in the strong belief that all these safety features built into cars now stop people from needing to learn to drive properly. My old 4x4 (gone but not forgotten) had no electrical gadgetry TCS and ABS were both delivered by careful use of my right foot, and the only time she ever got stuck was when her wheels were not in contact with the ground (long story).

Drivers are not taught how to control a car using the gears. Also I like to believe that the many years I spent driving cars that were one step away from the scrap heap gave me a good understanding of driving in less than perfect conditions!
