Bike of the Year and other claims.

As most of us do I guess I like to browse the bikes on various sites shops etc. I have noticed that they are very much like cars, most bike models lay claim to some sort of accolade.

Is there an actual "bike of the year" type awards out there? Its all well and good getting XYZ magazine "bike of the year 2017" but are these really independent awards or is there a bit of a Back hander going on?

How would you actually choose a bike off tne year, completely subjective! And pointless as most manufacturers only change their frames every few years if that

Dave Gorman explained how much you have to pay to get those "Product of the Year" in Goodish a while ago. I expect a magazine "Bike of the Year" would be cheaper.

Not much as the manufacturers fund the magazines who make the awards

If you want the best bike for you, test ride as many as you can

I don't take any notice of these "awards".

I bet the winning company happens to be one that advertises heavily in that particular publication.......

What I don't get is how can they have a bike of the year when it simply (for example) March? Surely they'd wait until a lot later in the year for such a category, the "year" would surely give a hint.

And anyway, if your bike doesn't win boty, then you can just make up your own category and take it from there.

I recall the day when, after years of describing Brand A as useless, a certain car mag declared them to be as good as brand B. Then I noticed a bunch of advertising for Brand A that was not there when Brand A did not advertise so heavily.

Having said that, it's still fun to check what the magazine's say but I don't pay as much credence to the reviews.
