Crossing the river is the problem isn't it.
Don't fancy the Rotherhithe tunnel, going through in a car with the window open is bad enough. That leaves Greenwich foot tunnel, which must add about 10 mins to the journey time. or going a couple of miles out the way to woolwich ferry or Tower Bridge. (too tight to pay any ferry costs )
All rubbish options.
I might give Greenwich Tunnel a go

Tower Bridge would probably be your fastest route, but if the weather forecast for hot and humid is correct, remember it's always cool in the tunnel. And - tempting fate here - the lifts now seem to be fairly reliable.
