Loch side.
1) Soap and water and brushes and a hose.
2) As and when it becomes dirty and the weather allows for it.
Afterwards we drink beer and ride some more.

Main priority is to keep the entire drive train clean - no soap needed for that - so that the bike runs smoothly and that components don't wear prematurely.

Rag, GT85.

Can't remember the last time I washed a bike - done it very few times in 20 years of serious cycling.

Wipe over with an oily rag.

Done.

Oh and if you use rim brakes keep the rims clean - ditto pads and check for debris.

In short, cleaning for functional reasons.

Soap and water.
Brushes.
No hose in my case, ivr6 an old watering g can for rinsing.
Leather dry.
Lube as required.
Plated parts get a spray with Duck Oil in foul weather.
Wax the paint periodically.
Clean after every ride, except my old commuter, which is now mg general purpose ride, which gets once a week.

Car wash liquid (Turtle), bucket of hot water, brushes, one of those shaggy car cloths. Chain needs special treatment. A chain cleaner with chain drive cleaner might do for you. Job done.

Buy your cleaning stuff like brushes in the CAR section as it is way cheaper than bike stuff. I have a slim brush for hubs and hard to reach spots, a tyre brush and a tough cassette brush. And a shaggy cloth. And pipe cleaners. That’s all.
