Bike Registry???

So overwhelmed, is there one central bike registry in the UK to contact if your bike goes missing?

Do we have to sign up for a subscription / membership or can we mark our bikes ourselves?

What's best? UV markers, stickers, etching.

I know if your bike gets stolen there's no guarantee it will be found but surely more chance if we've tried to mark our property.

Appreciate your thoughts and experience on this.

Although when a I had a bike stolen the local popo were unaware of its existence... but in their defence they are unaware of most things

No, there is no single one. Different forces are signed up to different companies, including bikeregister, immobilise, datatag, smartwater and probably others.

Some of these companies have leaked details in the past so why give them your details before they need them? Note down your frame and any part serial numbers, tag or mark them if you want, take photos, then keep them safe until and unless the worst happens and you need to make a report. It might never happen!
