The "but" wasn't trying to justify ramming a bike thief. I was questioning how it would make me feel, and others. I now know how you felt.

I think we are in agreement, Slick. My final sentence was not addressed at you but to those in your "but" group (ooh, err Mrs) who might consider violence an option.

I do not like the idea of vigilante action, no matter what the crime.

I don't mind vigilantism, so long as the response is proportionate. This clearly wasn't proportionate.
