This one is slightly above budget with 28c tyres and disc brakes

or there is this for £530- can fit 36mm tyres i think

The top bike isn't avalible in any stores. Bottom one looks good I guess, but as it's very top budget I would want them to swap the tyres out for 32C for me. Hopefully they would do that. Otherwise im out of budget for buying new tyres. As I'll still need to buy lights, SPD pedals, tools and mudgaurds

The 520 can be fitted with 32mm tyres without mudguards and comes with lights.

Definitely says up to 28C. Do you have first hand experience with 32C's?

Shimano long, dual-pivot callipers: reliability and power; a mudguard with stays can be mounted with 28mm tyres. 32mm tyres can be used without mudguards. Exceptional tyre clearance.

And it looks like there is quite a bit that would fit you on FB marketplace

This might sound mad but I don't want to go second hand, for two reasons.

1. I would like to treat myself to a "new" bike. Just to make myself feel a bit better about having my bike nicked.
2. As you get a lot more for the money second hand, I would end up with very expensive gearsets to have to replace one day.

Ahh, I'll definitely want mudgaurds (at least eventually). As I cycle commute all year all weathers.

Why not post a pic of your ex bike so if anyone sees it advertised for sale e.g. EBay or Gumtree or being ridden by a scrote they can give you a heads up and perhaps you could be re-united with it. Just a thought. Sorry for your loss. My first Brompton was stolen. I had foolishly thought a Kryptonite New Yorker huge D lock would be enough to secure it to an Oxford stand. No chance. This D-lock offered very little resistance. Bike theft is often trivialised. It is not a trivial crime. Saudi Arabia have the right attitude toward thieving scrotes.

Decathlon do cheaper bikes better than most.

To be honest it's not worth it. The bike was dirt cheap 6 years ago. They wont sell it, it will get ditched. It was time for a new one anyway.

Thanks to all for your help. Heading to decathlon tonight for some sort of £500 cyclocross type bike.

I was going to suggest Boardman bikes but I think you might have to spend a little more than £500 to get a reasonable spec. Not sure if Halfords are still doing them or they are now stand alone. Bike staff at decathlon know a little more about bikes than the guys at Halfords plus their customer service is miles, miles, kilometres better.
