Thats complete bollocks that. 2 hours? The whole point of station bike parks is that people can leave their bike whilst they commute to work and back.
Shameful, really shameful that the BTP have gone down that route.

I've done my fair share of CCTV trawling, including several weeks worth for a murder investigation and its incredibly labour intensive. Someone else would soon moan it their bobbies were spending their days sat in front of screens instead of patrolling.

Its a question of resources, and they simply don't have them. They need enough lolly to do all the tasks they are called upon for, but they simply don't have it. The fault lies with the government.

As an aside, the public expectation of cctv footage is unrealistic. Its a very poor detection tool.

Surprised that this sort of "announcement" isn't done at the same time as "We're installing new high security bike protection systems". Surprised they are not installing new higher secutity bike protection anyway.

If you bike is stolen, any reason why you can't submit a number of Subject Access Requests for different time windows to get the CCTV yourself?

You, the victim, aren't the data subject.

There are also a phenomenal amount of rules under PACE Code D as regards making an ID from footage. One has to be fair to the thieves, you see.

I do like Mings AI idea. If someone could make something workable from that it could be a winner.

Trawling CCTV footage for the thief is something AI would be perfect for. It would take minutes at most.

Agreed...also, I imagine a bunch of people would volunteer to be an unpaid checker of stuff like this. Some sort of vetting process for the person and then access to some way of distributing jobs and getting feedback. Secure social tools could work.

Lefty tighty. Get it righty.
If AI is half as good as it's supposed to be there should be no need to review CCTV. Just get chatgpt to be alert to the felons in real time.

Until cycle theft is taken seriously it will continue..................the "Ah well it's only a bike" attitude should be forgotten about and thieves appropriately punished. (and those who buy stolen bikes)

To be fair, thats not the attitude.

The attitude here is "we don't have enough uniforms out on patrol, so dont really want those few we do have sat at a desk."

The bad attitude sits with those that have held the purse strings over the last 15 years. Having a convicted fraudster who reported a robbery that never actually occurred placed in ultimate charge of BTP did nothing to improve matters.
