all my bikes and bike tools live in the cellar, as does the washing machine and dryer.

handy in that i can tell mrs alec i'm going down to do some washing and get a bit of fettling in after, no questions asked. i keep three plastic draws; one for tools, one for components and one for consumables.

i'm untidy enough with non-bike stuff for me to get away with tools in the living area. besides, the kids would probably get hold of them, and i don't want them getting broken ;)

Apparently my bike tools are the only eye-sore within a 5 mile radius, and I'm hearing grief about them.

Get a big enough fridge from the local scrapyard that will fit into that space yet can swallow those fine tool boxes.

Simples.

My bikes used to live in my bedroom (single at home with parents). I got married, my best bike lived in the spare room (others in my garage). We had kids, the best bike then went in the garage (with a car). Kids got older, and the car was shoved out of the garage for BIKES.....

Then more kids crap comes in Garage....argh. Both road bikes still have a little tube heater next to them though....(steel bikes - stops damp air).

After a ride/commute, bike comes in house though till I've cleaned up. Don't leave any un-secured - despite being in a very quiet place.

My new toolbox arrived today

I've just had an interesting hour emptying the old tool bag, sorting the stuff out and filling the new box. There was a load of assorted nuts bolts and washers in the bottom of the bag that I will put in my bits box tomorrow, and a load of rubbish that I ditched. the new box fits neatly under the stairs, and I can find stuff in it.

Guess I'm very lucky, I can fettle in the living room if the garage is cold, three of the bikes live upstairs and there is always something needs doing to one of the bikes. But then Mrs TF is as daft about bikes as I am. I suppose that is the answer, get your other half riding.

Tool boxes - ha !! Just imagine a Reliant Regal engine under the kitchen table and VW cylinder heads in the oven...

my mother was very understanding. Nowadays my dad would be lucky to smuggle a bike lamp into the kitchen.
