I would prefer Sleeping Menace's boxes in the corner of my kitchen*, out of the way and looking tidy. Rather than the clutter on the windowsill at Fab Foodie's.

FF how do you open or close the curtains or blind, or enjoy the view (of your garden) from that window?

* Not literally in my kitchen, for you, that would be inconvenient, to say the least. ;)

Hear hear! Looking at the OP again, that's a perfectly tidy stack of tool storage, and unless someone else desperately wants that corner for a fridge or something, I really don't see it as an issue.

Mine live in a vintage tin trunk in the living room. Like one of those posh storage coffee tables but full of cables and stuff instead of DVDs.

Mr BB has a whole room (of our 2 bedroom house) for his music toys so knows not to push it about my bike stuff

Does the term OCD mean anything to you?

actually he is right, and in a blind hole the forces involved could well banjax the part beyond use. all switchgear in work gets a fettle before its fitted and put into service. never had a failure yet.

work always complain about the torque wrench being calibrated each year. again no burn outs from incorrectly tightened bolts and no ACBs returned to manufacturer after being overtightened.

OCD would mean the tool going back in the drawer in the exact same position. and theres nothing that wrong with doing that

I can't recall having to chase-out a thread of any componant I've purchased or fitted, and my bikes seem to function perfectly well, they're not super-stressed F1 cars, they're just bikes!
Actually in high level motor sport if you can't home the bolt/nut with your fingers you junk it any get another one because there's something wrong with it & to work on it with tools takes it out of design tolerances. THAT is mechanical OCD ;)

Get rid of your dishwasher if you have one, and slot the bike workshop in it's place. Then promise to do the dishes for life. Simples!

um.. what about tap/die sets? facing tools? micrometers? snap guages, sockets sets, torx sets, torque wrenches, allen sockets, etc??

The few bits you're describing are what travel in my camel pack, in the little pocket next to the water bladder.... They're certainly not enough to keep a few bikes alive.. .. or am I wrong?
you are wrong. Modern bikes last for ever.

I'm a bit late to this thread, and i was going to say 'in our house the tools generally gravitate towards the garage, but we've got a special box in the kitchen for those that keep migrating in....'

...that was until i saw fab foodie's infamous window cill...

VASELINE **AND** A TENNIS BALL?!?!?!?

Care to explain, FF? ;)

Err, no ....

There are no curtains or blinds ... and you should see the state of the garden!

I'm glad my window-cill dumping ground is causing amusement. We have so much clutter, there's never a clear horizontal surface available unless you move something

But here's the rub, my little junk pile doesn't annoy my housemates and is removed in seconds to the Garage if required. But for your amusement and entertainment, here's the whole glass area (so not really obscured) and Mrs FF's window!

Nothing beats the satisfaction of taking apart the transmission of a bike, cleaning the mechs, re-threading the cables and indexing the gears. The going out for a test ride and the gear change is near enough perfection.:becool:

Very true.. knowing it's been done once, done right.. and the bike feeling sooo good, running sooo well that you put an extra few km's on, is a feeling like very very few others..

Not only do my tools live indoors - and I have a lot of tools: car tools, bike tools, house tools, power tools, MIG welder, all in their own toolboxes - but sometimes I bring engines or gearboxes inside to work on them in the warm. I'm lucky enough to have a small annexe off the kitchen which I appropriated when we moved in. All the bikes live in there too.
