I use Bikehike all the time because a) it has the option to reduce the number of waypoints in a track to <500, and b) because it communicates directly with my eTrex Legend gps.

When it went down last time I tried out Ridewithgps, and it's good - but no OS, and I have to use gpsbabel to reduce the number of waypoints and upload to the eTrex. It's that or paying for Mapsource - which I otherwise don't need.

Whilst my workaround is do-able, let's hope BH get's it's problems sorted. Maybe if the owner reads this he could come on here and explain himself. I too would gladly pay something to use the site.

It's back.......................

It's gone again; and this time it looks more serious, as these messages come up, implying that BikeHike is no longer hosted on that service:

"Not Found The requested URL /mapview.php was not found on this server."
and
"This is the Plesk™ default page
If you see this page it means:
1) hosting for this domain is not configured
or
2) there's no such domain registered in Plesk."

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
I have come across this; it's a great substitute for BikeHike, in that you can have Google maps ( or various other options) next to an OS map. And you can save/import routes.

Yes - I've tried that one. Must be me, but I find the on-map plotting really clunky - no undo button for example. I have recently been using http://gb.mapometer.com/ but the print out facility is really limited, and no OS map, but it is easy to plot route variations to compare distance etc, which is what I mostly want.

I agree; it is a bit clunky, but it has some interesting features, including access to old maps, and it is the only one I could find with Google etc./OS side-by-side. The other site I have used when BikeHike was down in the past (and now that it may be gone for good) is: http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx
