On the way home last night, (in a taxi - shhhhhhhhhhhhhh) Anyway, on Whitehall, just before parliament square there was a police van, a cyclist on the pavement who I guess had been hit or pushed off the road. Not injured, but was getting loads of grief from the copper about something or other. From what I can tell, although I could be so wrong), is that the copper was telling him that he, a cyclist, was in the wrong because he only weighed 12stone, and the car weighed 2tons, so he should make way for him if he was concerned about his safety. Seems a bit reckless to me, ignoring the highway code that all road vehicles have the same rights, and just because something is bigger, that we should all pull over and stop for them. Copper had his tie clipped to his shirt pocket and was very agitated and angry, to the point where I thought the police were in the wrong, and the only way he could get out of the situation was to intimidate the cyclist by making him agree that because he was smaller and lighter than a car, that he should move out the way. (again, this is what I could tell from the inside of a cab.)

then in brixton, another police van was giving a cyclist a talking too. Could not make that one out though.

anyone know about the first incident?

ps, pick the mended bike up in a mo' yippeeeee! although going to have heavy rain for tomorrow, boo hoo.

No, this can't be true? Surly they wouldn't be wasting their time, and out catching real criminals rather than harass 3rd class citizens like us? ;)

So, you admit you might be wrong, and were inside a cab, but you tell us all about your theory that the police were in the wrong.

Do you have a theory about how the cyclist might have been in the wrong?

I was out collecting the recycling the other day, and saw a copper on a bike standing by a car, noting down details. I said to my companion, with a grin "What to reckon is wrong with the car then" and he said "fecking coppers, do my head in, he's been sitting there on his bike for 5 minutes doing nothing." Alas, I didn't think to say until afterwards that he was probably waiting for a PNC check on it, having radio'ed in. There's the difference: although I know the police aren't perfect, I don't tend to assume they are in the wrong....

oh dear, who got out the bed on the wrong side today. I know where your coming from as some of the threads contain stories where the cyclist is always right no matter how bad their cycling

It was what i saw and what i heard. The policemans attitutde to the cylcist, angry, argumentative, and the cyclists who wsa trying to get his point across in a civil way. I wsa parked next to them for about 5mins as the traffic was all held up. Thus, this lead me to that conclussion. Thats why in the original thread that i could be wrong. i was hoping that maybe the guy was on here and we would hear he side of what happened.

I got a telling off form a couple policeman last year – very close and slow overtake from a merc (driver on the chatting away on a hand held btw) – shouted words to the effect of “a bit more room might be nice you pr1ck…” . Right next to two coppers on foot. Got told to watch my language and that I was doing the most dangerous thing I could by cycling on the road?? Also told me I should have a helmet on. Resisted the urge to tell them to Foxtrot Oscar and just carried on cycling.

I recently bought a red safety arm, the sort with a reflector that clip on to the frame and swing out. Anyway, I cable tied to the outer edge a piece of metal plastering mesh and painted it safety yellow. Guess what, it works! The police haven’t stopped me and they might even approve. But I don’t live in London.

Ok, sorry, maybe I over reacted. I just know that there are a fair share of dicks out there on bikes, just as there are dicks in uniform...

Shouting at someone who nearly killed you is more dangerous than driving whilst using a mobile?

Well I never. Idiot coppers.
