I haven't flown with a bike for a couple of years and looking at the BA website it would appear that they'd now accept a built bike (with pedals & bars turned) in a CTC style bag, subject to the total baggage weight allowance.

Anyone got any recent experience or can confirm this?

I used them with a proper bike box, but the site does now sound very clear.

We will accept non-motorised bicycles of all dimensions provided they are packed in a recognised bicycle bag.

Preparing bicycles for travel:

  • bicycle pedals must be removed (or fixed inwards)
  • handlebars must be fixed sideways
  • the bicycle must be contained in a protective case or bag
  • you may wish to deflate the tyres to reduce risk of damage.
In order to cover yourself I would take a screen shot of their site and a screen shot of whatever bag you use ( I use these for touring http://www.bikeadventures.co.uk/shop.html ) which clearly states that the bag is a bike bag not just a large plastic bag
