I've just noticed that maps.bing.com isn't offering OS maps any more. Unless I'm doing something wrong

There used to be an Ordnance survey option available alongside "Road"

Have they stopped offering this?

Dunno, but I noticed that a couple of nights ago - a very useful feature it was, too

Works fine on mobile and tablet, Android OS.

Have you gone to Beta Maps by any chance? A guess it or Windows is the issue.

Nope. I expect it's just bing going wonky. Switch it off and switch it on again. Clear cookies. Turn round three times and spit.

No to both?

The OS (operating system) would have been useful on the thread starter.

My final guess was that it had simply not locked onto the correct location, thus not showing the UK options.
I almist certainly have had that happen to me.

Interesting. OS maps just disappeared for me ... again. I tried clearing cookies, both Edge and Chrome - didn't work, unlike last time.

I noticed it was showing "beta" next to "Maps"

I found that I can reset beta (in Edge at least). By hovering over "My Places" there's a button to revert from beta to classic. It works, and you get OS maps back.

I couldn't find the equivalent in Chrome, but I noticed that reverting to classic caused v10 to appear in the URL parameters. If I copy the classic URL from Edge to Chrome, bingo - I get OS maps back and "beta" goes away and OS maps return in Chrome too. Here's the URL https://www.bing.com/maps/myplaces?v10showmyplaces=1

There are changes afoot in MS's mapping. I didn't read the details, some APIs have been deprecated; saving places (whatever that is) won't be available at the end of the year, blah blah blah, other changes too possibly. That's why there's a beta version. It's the future.

Worryingly the future doesn't seem to contain OS maps  I doubt that the URL bodge that I discovered above will work indefinitely.

Ah ha. Found something interesting. And it looks like bad news for Bing.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5588290/how-to-get-os-data-on-bing-maps

Note that this person isn't an official microsoft person. They are just a person spouting on the internet, so it could be all wrong.

Microsoft removed the Ordnance Survey map layer from the consumer-facing Bing Maps website and Windows app, following a change in Microsoft’s licensing agreement with OS. As a result, new installations (including your Windows 11 laptop) no longer show the “Ordnance Survey”.
Current update as of 2025
  • The OS map tiles are no longer available in Bing Maps for general users.
  • The data is still available through the Bing Maps REST APIs / Enterprise accounts and via Ordnance Survey’s own online services (e.g. OS Maps, OS OpenData APIs).

"
AI Overview
The "OS mode" for Bing Maps refers to the Ordnance Survey (OS) map layer, which has been removed or is no longer fully available for free public use. Previously, users could switch to this view by clicking the "Road" button and selecting "Ordnance Survey," but it now shows a beta version with limited functionality or has been discontinued entirely as Bing Maps is being unified with Azure Maps.
