I made the mix of lard, bird seed and wholemeal bread last night. I'm going to put it onto my bathroom's outside window bottom later. Let's see if the small birds find it.😉

Two months on and I was so pleased to see a robin pecking at the above. It's the first time I've seen a bird eating some of the lard, seeds and bread. I don't know what state the bread's in after being there for two months, but the lard and seeds will be ok to eat. As I was making myself a cup of coffee I saw the little robin appear, so I grabbed my phone, hoping it didn't fly off. It's not a good pic as it was taken through the net curtain. If I'd moved the curtain for a decent shot, the bird would've immediately flown off.

I wonder if urban birds are particularly badly affected and countryside birds not so..the greenfinch mentioned reminded me, I often saw them just a mile or so away...havnt seen a greenfinch in ages, literally years.

Country park nearby I've been frequenting...seemingly loads of birdlife, their chatter is everywhere.

So it begs the question...is it us ?
Is birdflu more prevalent where we are feeding them, bringing then up in close proximity to each other ?
Is it the prevalence (as in my locality) of loads and loads of doves, the semi domesticated white ones ? Rooftops have perhaps 50 to a hundred on locally and i have frequently found dead ones and ill looking ones that soon die .
Locally there is a lady who goes around spraying grain everywhere, again does this bring species abnormally close together exacerbating the flu ?

Just theories, no data, no proof, just observations.

I made another, but bigger bird feeder last night. I put the setting lard and bird seeds at an angle while setting, to leave half of the dish free to put water in, thinking that oil/fat and water won't mix.

I'm pleased to say that after an hour of it being on the windowsill the first visitor arrived!😉

Do any of you know what type of bird this is? A neighbour told me he's been feeding it from his window for a few days now, after arriving at approximately the same time and then just sitting there for a few hours, then flying off, to reappear the next day. He says it's a dove, but those feathery feet are quite unusual.🤔
