Are you thinking of any roads in particular MrP?

All the roads I would take look ok, although I notice that New St is grey - I've cycled down there in the past ok including once with the bike police.

I'm back at university from next Tuesday for 1 year.

A lot of the Dual Carriageways which aren't classed as advised routes though are nowadays pretty ok to cycle down.
This is due to the cars parked in the left hand lane which means we can go past these and Cars have to go in the Right hand lane anyway so there are few instances of close overtakes,

Do you know they guy who cycles to Brum daily Via Mucklow Hill ?
He used to post on the old forum about 3 years ago.

I used to go up and down Mucklows Hill on my commute from Kings Heath to Merry Hill. Got sick of the traffic though so now go through Blackheath instead. Still get a big hill.

(Although with winter approaching I'll be stopping doing the full distance and taking the bike on the train).

Our company were supposed to relocate to Kings Norton - Which way do you go ??
For me the shortest route would be over Frankley but that's a massive hill

I have gone via Kings Norton and over Egg Hill - great view of the city and surrounding countryside (through the sweat and tears!). That way did come up as shorter than my normal route (KH/Stirchley/Selly/California/Halesowen/Blackheath/Cradley Heath/Merry Hill) which didn't feel right (I'm not convinced of the readings).
I really don't like the thin dark bit of country lane coming home near Illey though, cars come flying round the blind corner, there could be a car coming the other way, and with the high sides to the road there's nowhere to go. It's going uphill too so I'm not going quick.
The Blackheath way is fairly innocuous. I could do you bikely routes if you're interested.

The clock is ticking however as our office is moving to Warwick, which is going to change everything. I'm wondering if it's worth starting to resent Chiltern Trains now, just to save time.

I go across the top of muclow hill (thank god!)

For anyone thats interested you can get paper versions of the birmingham cycle routes free from B'ham council - easier to follow than the online ones.

I may have passed you a few times (in car) as I go down Illey lane when driving and see a bloke cycling up.

I have thought he is brave riding up there but at least it's light at the moment.

I will flash you (Car lights that is) if I see you again when driving and you can respond here if it's you !!

The route through Woodgate/California is horrible

No that won't be me, I prefer the other way!

I don't like the route through Illey, and prefer the Woodgate route (in terms of traffic, if not scenery!)

I'd need to get from KN Business Park to Halesowen Town Centre

Don't blame you - Nasty road that is even driving.
In the mornings earlier in the year 2 Double deckers used to go down the hill and I met them once on the sharp dark bit near the abandonded cottages - Had to go right up the kerb into the shrubbery and was furious.

I wouldn't cycle through Illey for a lot of money.

I do go through woodgate though and across the top of Mucklow hill, which works well for me. To merry hill I go Shell Corner, Powke lane, Saltwells Road and then through Merry Hill to Brierley Hill.

Of course I avoid Powke lane on the way home, and always admire the people I see going up Mucklow.

Yep a fair few people going up Mucklow.
Have to smile at the ones going up as I come down !!

I tried another way after a few goes up Mucklows but It's shorter going up it than going round. Although it is slow progress it's worth it.
