Hi again.
Tonight I got my cycling gear on and admired myself in the mirror . I've only got 5 more chins and six bellies to lose before I lose that vac packed bag of spuds look in my cycling clobber. Out on the road I came up behind a fellow cyclist waiting at the lights. He really looked the part and looked like he meaned business tonight with his dark sun glasses on and team kit.. Usually my triumphs of flying past other cyclists involves little old ladies on there shopping bikes or the guy coming home from work on his mountain bike with half inflated tyres and sporting a donkey jacket and steel toe capped boots.
Tonight though the competitive side got the better of me with this guy on his slammed out road bike..I wasn't going to ride on his wheel but I did want to pace him a good few metres back just to see if I could to be honest. Well my inquisitive questions where soon answered by being left for dust by this guy. When we got out on to the open country road he was like a greyhound after the rabbit. After about 3 miles he was long into the sunset leaving me making excuses ,to make me feel better about myself..In the end I just conceded he was in a different class to me..Mind you, I thoroughly enjoyed having a go at keeping up and it's only made me more determined to progress in cycling to get fitter and healthier..
On a plus side I also managed a personal best tonight of averaging 17mph over the 16 mile route I often do..
I,ll have him next time ( in my dreams lol).
On a serious note though I give people who can cycle like that great respect. The amount of training required to get to that level really must take some determination and long hours in the saddle.

The moment he was out of sight he probably collapsed in a heap from the effort of showing off. One of my favourite commute games was to toy with club roadies on summer evenings, while encumbered with guards and rucksack.

Wouldn't be great though to have the opportunity to cycle amongst the great cyclists in the world like Froome or Sagan.. Watching these guy's on TV doesn't do it justice as to how quick they are when there all so evenly matched, but I think it would be amazing for us mere mortals to see and try and pace one of these legends and see at first hand how quick they really are in the real world.

FTFY, brought it down to my performance level.

Try a tandem . Just one technological requirement ....

... a mirror so you can see those team-kitted legs burn out, and fall off behind you. SOOOO good for the soul. And makes up for years and years of being left for dead by younger, fitter, faster guys on better bikes .

I have to say, I am enjoying blatting it past other cyclists on my tiny lady's ten speed. It's all very silly.

I think you are more likely to see Sagan in G B than Froome.
