Blocked Bike lane - what to do?

is it really an offence to be outside the bike lane over there?

One of the commenters quotes a NYC Ordnance:

This is a quote from the NYC DOT: "§ 4-12 (p) – Bicycles

Bicycle riders must use bike path/lane, if provided, except for access, safety, turns, etc."

I dunno, I don't see 'jaywalking' becoming a crime over here any time soon, thank goodness. Imagine if you could be fined or even arrested and prosecuted for walking across the road outside of a designated pedestrian crossing?

it's 'within 100yrds' or something like that , ie if theres a crossing near , USE IT!


tbh, since it seems some parents seem incable of passing on the green cross code, it might have to come to that , it *seems* to get worse and worse..
err though this might of course be due to me getting old and thats how yer perception changes

in new york . yeah , seems so...

in one of the helmet threads i posted a report on new york cycling deaths.. theres been 1 IN a cycle lane ( car) a total of 225.. ( obviously i dont believe ALL roads have cycle lanes like those though) .

they're also pretty wide... put most of uk's to shame

interesting , it also has the 'both sides of the one way' and the in lane doesnt apply for safety reason,, ie it's perfectly okay to go out the lane to avoid running into the back of trucks
