Cars are over-engineered.

Good thing too. My ancient Volvo estate (bougt for less than half the price of Stevenb's steering repair two years ago and still going strong) has double drivebelts all round. So if one breaks, there's another one to carry on driving whatever it drives. Much better than being under engineered.

I popped to the garage this morning and saw my car in the air in pieces....
I noticed that I have an oil leak by the looks of things....looks like it's coming from the gearbox, where the driveshaft goes into it.
This could explain the whirring sound I've been hearing.
I had this same sound on my Celica GT4 on the rear diff.....I ended up changing that myself to keep Toyota charging me £2k to repair it.

However...the garage guys said they'd check my gearbox oil level for me. The chap said it didn't look that bad.....oil leaks look worse than than are I know.....the oil gets splattered about easily.

Even so....what I though was a solid little car is turning out to be costly. I might sell it and buy a cheap runabout.
