BMC to launch a high end Aluminium - ALR01 Road Series range of bikes

With the recent launch by and the ever continued success of Cannondale, Specialized, Cannyon and Rose bikes; to name a few, it appears that there is a definite resurgence in Aluminium framed bikes.

Agreed @Smokin Joe aluminium never went away for a lot of riders. However, it is nice to see it getting the press coverage it deserves.
@MisterStan beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I will be honest to say that I like the look of the BMC 'Teammachine' bikes.
@raleighnut if I had the money to spare to, then I am certain that I could be swayed to part with my cash for a steel steed.

Steel didn't go away, but it got bloody expensive. Over two grand for a not too special tubeset with Veloce or 105, sheesh

Really can't abide the look of the BMC's, or Giants or GT's or any other bike that has dropped rear stays.

To be perfectly honest this is the one I had my eye on before all my savings went on the trike ( I spent just under a grand on that just to get mobile again after my broken leg)

853 tubing £880 + VAT
For the Audax special frameset (light/fast tourer would have been my use for it) but I would have built it up to my spec with a mix of Ultegra/105 and using the Dura-ace 8-9 bar end shifters I've got in my workshop (OK shed ) and the Ultegra HT2 triple that is under the bench with a set of handlaced wheels and a B17 narrow saddle

Also Mercian do not order groupsets in massive quantities like major manufacturers so do not get the level of discount that would be given to someone that wanted 10,000 units a year.
Bit like buying a Saville Row tailored suit as opposed to an off the peg Burton offering....................No contest for me I'm afraid, Handmade every time, bit like my 531 Raleigh and my 653 TT frame (I just wish I knew whom had built the 653 as it has no frame numbers or makers decals but is certainly not a 'mass produced' frame) and is fitted with a mix of Centaur and Record bits.
