BMX tyres as a halfway point between road and off road ?

Hello all,

I have recently brought a couple of folding bikes both fitted with narrow slick Schwalbe tyres , these are totally unsuitable /lethal for my off road excursions whilst of course being excellent on road .As a halfway point I thought I might go BMX tyres as they are available everywhere and are of course not quite fully off road whilst of course being not fully on road so they should be reasonable at both, What do you think ?

Take it you’ve not bought any decent modern, 20” rubber lately ? Can do £40-£50 an end no problem. **Hutch, Panaracer, S+M blah blah……

Billy Bonkers are pretty fast on tarmac / pump tracks and with plenty of grip off road / gravel race tracks , at least in dry conditions. Supple sidewalls give a decent ride too..
Stay away from freestyle tyres .

That's what I had noticed ! I don't wish to spend a fortune as in all reality I just don't need too ! At least for my use. If I was commuting log distances then of course I would think differently .

In all honesty I've never til now had anything with 20 " wheels even as a kid ! That said I'm enjoying them now !

Got these for one of my footbikes in 47-406, but not tried them in the wild - yet.
At least my tyres with 421g on our kitchen scale are close enough at the specified 420g.

They look good but are unusable ! Not really a problem as my grandson already has his mark on them. They are supposed to be 20 x 2.0 but in reality are more like 20 X 2.25 they just clear the frame but are a little too close to comfort and are near twice as tall as the super slick death trap tyres and foul the brakes !

Continental Double Fighter? Roll well and seem to be useful on forest tracks etc - like EckyH I use them on my footbikes. Not too expensive if you shop around a bit.

Schwalbe Smart Sam is a bit more rugged. I have Kenda Small Block 8s on my recumbent trike and they stick like glue - and whilst a bit buzzy on tarmac they’re not bad at all in terms of subjective rolling resistance.

Sorted ! The ride quality is far superior a lot of the buzz through the bars has gone, I can pedal uphill on gravel and the bike goes in the direction I want o go rather than trying to throw me off. It has transformed the bike from one that was good on smooth clean road ( none around here !) to one that can be used on minor off road and also the Country roads surrounding me. Tyres were £15.90 for two ! so it suits my skinflint pockets !
