I'm not understanding why the Planet X and Ribble are better value - how is that worked out?

All look about the same to me with usual wheel/saddle etc compromises on a c£1k bike eg Planet X has pretty cheap 501's & OEM brakes/chainset on it etc.

Not saying anything is intrinsically wrong with these items but they would feature on many peoples 'things to upgrade asap' list which doesn't scream good value to me.

Sorry you are right, I thought it was full ultegra. I think I am getting mixed up with the one that was £1200 that was full ultegra, brakes, chainset the lot.

The Boardman is awesome for £999 and like all Boardmans will ride like a dream too. Wouldn't call the style dull at all though, especially compared to rivals in that price range such as Giant, Cannondale, Spesh etc although admittedly I have a thing for white bikes!

Centaur is IMO better than Ultegra and the wheels on the Ribble are pretty decent too. PX is not such a great deal. The Boardman has Tiagra, shoot wheels and weighs a ton. More than my entry level alu Bianchi I got for £700.

We have had this comparison before.

IMO opinion the Planet X is by far the best bke for the price.

Despite lesser kit and pedestrian wheels? I think the frames are both generic Chinese carbon. So what makes it better?

The Ultegra components.

It's not even full Ultegra. Chainset and brakes are cheap and I for one would want to replace them. The wheels definitely need replacing.

I have Ultegra on two bikes and Centaur on one. I much prefer the Centaur, and in combination with different brakes (SRAM Red) it weighs midway between Ultegra and DuraAce. So objectively and subjectively it is the better groupset.

With the Ribble you get the full Centaur, plus Fulcrum 5 equivalent wheels. It's a race ready set up, no weak spots. You need to spend close to £300 to get the PX to the same level. Even if you are an Ultegra fanboy that is quite a sobering difference.

Don't get me started on the Boardman...
