I have been looking at some offers on one on Groupon

I don;t want a helmet cam because it adds height to my helemt and I have enough problems banging it on low bridges and general foliage as it is

and ones on the bars seems like a good way to get vibrartion

so I was wondering is a body cam would be a good compromise

are they good enough to - for example - identify a car that has close passed you - I suspect not

and would they identify someone who decided to come over shout if they decided I was a cyclist and therefore needed to shouting at

or are they not good enough unless you spend a load of money anyway??

Ones on the bars are usually good enough to pick out registration numbers. For a long time, I had the most basic of the original GoPro's (given to me as a present), and used it that way. The more recent models (and almost all other makes) have much better image stabilisation than that had, so should be even better.

Though the cheapest GoPro nowadays is around £200. There are other decent enough brands for less.
