Did anyone get 100%?

The French have the Académie française to dictate on the usage of the French Language. Also, the French hold dictation competitions that they take very seriously. There's no way way they are going to admit that English is a language that anyone can speak perfectly when we have no such institutions and keep allowing new words into our dictionaries!

And we let the Yanks tell us how to spell!

Georges Clemenceau (1841-1929) – French Prime Minister
“English is just badly pronounced French.”

And yet, with a 1st class degree in English and a diploma in translation (French to English), I feel I get by perfectly adequately in England.

How/where did you get your diploma in translating, DFM?

I was going to do a masters in translation (Norwegian and Swedish to English) but didn't get round to it.

A diploma sounds a lot easier, I mean, more interesting.

Radio 4 says there are over 400,000 French people living in London. They interviewed some of them this morning, during which mention was made of a website for French people in the UK. I had a look and found this website with a nice little English test: http://www.ici-londres.com/fr/test-anglais

(Shock horror, I scored only 95%! Where did I go wrong?)

95 for me too, I don't understand. Maybe it's set to never give 100% specially to upset any English people who take it.

I did it through Westminster College (or was it university) who were running an Institute of Linguists diploma course. The hardest part was getting accepted on the course without any formal French qualifications.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Is it possible to do it via the net, like the OU? Fortunately I already have a 2:1 BA Hons in Scandinavian Languages and Literature, so that may help, IF I ever decide to go for it.

Or I could just read through the link you sent.

Thanks.
