First came across her in the "Our hidden lives" Mass Observation diaries.
Not yet finished (it's very long**) but she comes across as a brave modern woman in times when attitudes were, slowly, shifting.
At one point she takes what would these days be called a "fark buddy".
I used to work her sort of way and very probably drove or walked past her "wee cottage" though after she had passed.

Cycling connection? - an ideal book for a pannier on a cycle tour I think - which would doubtless inviolve a few spare hours atent.
