Hi all, had my Raliegh Centros serviced today, (not had it done for a long time.. ). A bit expensive, but it now rides like a new bike!

Just wondering how ofted you get your e-bike serviced, (miles / time)...?

Literally just picked it up yesterday after a full service - had it done here Bill Hargreaves Cycles. That was after 3000 miles/2.5 years, probably too long. I won't be waiting as long next time as even though I have had some work done on it over that time I think getting it done once a year is sensible.

I have had mine serviced by the LBS most years

normally they just fiddle with the normal bike bits and get them working properly again
they tend to get out of alignment and it is easier to get them to fix it properly than try myself

I also get them to update the software and all that at the same time

AT one point there was an annoying creak from the left pedal - or on strong downstrokes from it anyway

He tried several times and it all seemed OK - just creaky

turned out he needed special tools - and his mechanic had had them and he very sadly died over COVID
so the LBS had to get some more
when they did he found that the insides were full of dust and other muck
once it was all cleaned out the whole bike felt better

but is was several years old by then

but most years a connect to the Bosch system and a good fiddle by someone who knows what they are doing seems to be enough

BTW - Bosch software update this year seems to have fixed some of the problems with Walk Assist
although I can;t find any documentation about that!

What were those though I rarely use it.

previously when I tried to use it - which is VERY seldom
it would start off then reach a speed (very slow) then cut out
then start again
and stop

it was slightly better in higher gears but not much
so it was basically useless

but suddenly it goes consistently - although still at a very slow speed - but at least it doesn;t start and stop all the time

now - as I never use it - this might have been there for a while
but I am pretty sure it only improved after the update

but the documentation online is somewhat "brief"
and the LBS doesn;t seem to have anything better

..never used the "walk" mode...didn't even know how to use it!!
The Local bike shop also replaced both discs and pads......it actually stops now!!

Yes - just got mine to replace the rear pads
before that the rear brakes were more of a vague suggestion of a possibility that a reduction in speed might be desirable

I think "someone" managed to get some oil on them or some other contaminant

the main bits of a legal ebike - are still just a bike

Main advantage of it being an ebike is that if I have a break for some reason
then I can still do the rides I like
I just do them in the next assist level up!

then after a few rides I can drop it down again

We have never ever had a bike serviced it’s always done in our garage by myself.

I can do basic repairs, tyres, tubes, brake pads (with swearing) that sort of thing. But I've never been massively interested in the fettling side of things so I think I'm better paying someone to do it for me.

Problem with self servicing a Bosch system is that you can't really DIY software updates and the like, as you need all their computer / techy stuff, which only dealers have. I understand Bafang stuff is a little more user friendly / accessible....??

I wouldn't even want to try. If I change the brake pads and muck it up it'd cost me £20 for a brake fix, if I try to service the motor and muck it up thats several hundred pounds to replace. No chance lol!

Like @Drago, I service mine myself.
I've just ordered parts to go from 48/38/28 x 12-32 7 speed to 36 x 11-34 8 speed.
I originally built the bike up in 2021, when parts were scarce and I had to use what I had.
It's now done 2778km since I fitted a Swytch kit in July 2024.
