Next weekend we will be staying on the Polesen Lacey estate. I'll be taking a road bike and we'll also be taking the tandem.

I've never been round this neck of the woods in my life. Can any of you learned folk recommend a couple of quiet loops please?

Tandem-20 miles (ish) not scared of hills!

Road bike -30 (ish)

I'd like to do more but it's (Jo's) family weekend so don't want to be out too long.

Thanks.

Lots of nice hills all around that area.

Out of Poulsden Lacey, as you exit the estate, head right up a small hill on Chapel Lane. Once you've descended this head right up onto Ranmore Common. You can then head along the top of the North Downs east to west. I'd suggest along onto Crocknorth Road (watch steep descent) then left up Green Dene, then left at the top descending Coombe Lane towards the A25.

Would avoid the A25 as it's quite busy and national speed limit in places. Instead head across and into and through Shere. Once across this South side of the A25 you've got lots of small roads to play on. One of my favourite routes would be to head towards Peaslake then find Radnor Road, which climbs up and round Holmbury Hill. If you keep left round the top of the hill you can head towards Holmbury St Mary, then cut across on a number of routes to take in Leith Hill. If you head around the top of Leith through Coldharbour you can then descend towards Dorking which makes for an easy route back to PL.

No idea of distance, but am sure you could easily fit in a lumpy 20-30 along these lines, depending which lanes you take.

oh.... and if you want to take in Box Hill, you could easily add this towards the end of this route as you head back to PL!!

My neck of the woods. I like the sound of @Twizit's suggestions.

Take care on Combe Lane and White Down Lane (up or down) in the leafy/greasy conditions
Yeah, Whitedown is narrow and you can certainly pick up a lot of speed before you reach the hair-pin. It's not a hill to go mad on.

But it's Bagden Hill that scares me; it's much smaller, a quiet back road just next to Polesden; it lulls you into a false sense of security as you pass some stables, a few cottages, the site of a Roman vineyard, and then some gentle meanders under the trees as you pick up speed. It'll probably be damp and leaf-strewn too, and there's a sharp left hander near the bottom, where it's also very narrow. Head-on collision territory!

Staying where, the campsite? :cold:

I am fairly sure that Box Hill is closing soon for maintenance, it might be worth a bit of research.
