Re-opened today for bikes & cars for the first time in weeks the National Trust.

Great to see so many people out here today, and with lots of smiles. Had a couple of good laughs with one or two on the way up.

Anyone else get out there?

Went and took a look. Several traffic jams on Old London Road from Mickleham to the Ryka's/Burford Bridge Roundable, and at the bottom of the Zig Zag.

Car parks rammed, double-parked. Lots of people on foot too, seemed to be social-distancing, but everyone using the same loos, etc.

Didn't stop, turned round and came right back home again. I reckon the infection rate will jump as a consequence of this weekend.

But at least some were wearing maks:

I rode Box Hill once just before the Olympics we were camping in the area got up there at first light road surface smooth as silk no speed humps.Fantastic. At the moment I keep away from anywhere that may be described as popular.

The hilarious thing is, on a night out a friend of a friend verbally went ape on me, she was ranting about cyclists on box hill and how she lived there and cyclists are the scourge of the area.

All I said was are you finished? and replied I have never cycled box hill so why attack me.

I'm not criticizing anyone who has or will cycle there, but just to highlight how people lump all cyclists into one basket, if one jumps a red light we all do.

My response to anyone now raging at me is, I see far more bad motorists than bad cyclists, and statistically they cause more injury and death.

What is this mythical place you Laardunners keep mentioning what's so special about it, is it the only hill in the dreary place?

As a hill to cycle up it's now't special, but as a place to visit on the edge of London, in Surrey its beautiful on a nice day.

^^^ this - but more so when it's quiet and not totally overrun with people. I heartily recommend 7.30am on a Monday morning :becool:
