If you think Box Hill is in London then you really havent a clue.If you think Laardun ain't a dreary place you must have some fantastic rose tinted glasses.
Not entirely true as close by you Have White Down, Ranmore and Leith Hill all of which are tougher then Box HillIt's also worth pointing out that Box Hill is a pretty big hill and probably the only pretty big hill in quite a big area...
and throw in Barhatch Lane as well - all tougher but none have a decent view unless you go climbing up the tower at Leith. Not entirely true as close by you Have White Down, Ranmore and Leith Hill all of which are tougher then Box Hill
Staple lane and Combe lane are worth a mention too. Especially if you do the climb of Combe through the hairpin from the A25.and throw in Barhatch Lane as well - all tougher but none have a decent view unless you go climbing up the tower at Leith.
I'll also throw in the gratuitous photo from Box - on a nice morning

This is a route I sometimes use when I’m doing led rides for B.C. It takes in all the usual suspects of the Surrey hills.
Yep. Along the Pilgrims Way and North Downs theres a few nasty climbs.Crocknorth is pretty nasty too(although short) but Whitedown and Barhatch are worse.
I believe the steepest climbs are east beyond Godstone towards Sevenoaks. @ianrauk - is that your neck of the woods?
Or a Sunday morning in February, when it's just me and some sheep.^^^ this - but more so when it's quiet and not totally overrun with people. I heartily recommend 7.30am on a Monday morning
