Brake levers - which way round.

Which brake lever operates your front brake?

I always find this debate amusing. Road brake calipers are made for Left=Front, Right=Back cabling. As far as I know this is because it allows the essential brake to be most available most often to the majority of people (i.e. right handed). You use your right hand for gear changing (this dates back to the days of down tube levers), drinking, snot management, bum scratching, etc and the front brake is still available on your left hand. This is especially important if you're riding in a bunch.

It's nothing to do with the side of the road that people drive on. As somebody's already pointed out it does allow you the best brake and the most important hand signal in the UK.

The most important thing is that you have them the way you're used to!

I think I'd agree with that. I keep meaning to ensure all of my bikes have the front brake on the right hand side because I have a motorbike too... and that's the way that is and I can't change it (well, not easily).
