I've no problems with Chris Hoy's ad. It's dull as but hardly selling out. Nor VP's, um, photo shoot. She has as fit and as toned a body as Hoy, and I can admire either for that, but I don't find either erotic or such like. But then I don't think an athletic form is necessarily sexy... in fact, quite the opposite sometimes.

Different things though innit? CH is advertising but keeps his kit on. We see this rightly or wrongly as acceptable and following in a long line of celebrity endorsements. He's only being him as we know him. It's not like he's saying 'eat bran flakes and btw here is my todger'.

VP's naked form is not what we know her for. (Btw, I use "we" in a very general sense). That is what upsets some and leads to calls of 'sell out' and 'degrading' etc; she's a cyclist not a porn star sort of thing. It challenges a world view. I personally don't have an issue with her doing it. She's happy to do it and, it would seem, actually enjoys it; it seems she wants to challenge the single view of her. Cool, whatever, it hardly rates up there either way.

But eating bran flakes is not what we know CH for is it? I could understand what VP was thinking wanting to be seen as an attractive young lady rather than a sweaty cyclist all the time. Chris hoy just said he eats Branflakes for Cash.

Dont get me wrong this isnt the end of the world just curious why no one had mentioned it.

I see your point though. I think nobody's mentioned it because I think there's a distinction in people's minds; something like 'keeping your clothes on isn't selling out'. CH is only taking the cash so we think of it as acceptable even if, should we ever (over?) analyse it, we are being a touch hypocritical if we are critical of VP.

Maybe we're trying to deal with our own prudishness/repression by blaming VP for our own unease with naked flesh?? Who knows, I'd certainly not claim to know anything of the workings of the mind!

As someone who bought the FHM for the VP article in question [1] I have no problem with either of them making extra cash off the back of thier hard work.

Compare this with the cash that the wannabies currently residing in shared accomodation in Borehamwood hope to be making.
