Fantastic replies again, basically in a nutshell i am going to fartlek-interval train, i will start off slow-plodding on for the first third, maximum or close to for the second third then back to slow for the final third.
(any other suggestions)
This will break the route down in 3 parts of 2 and a half miles...
another thing which i forgot to mention is i have screwed down my front mech so that it permanently sits on the highest chainring, i only have 8 gears to choose from and it seems to be working especially on hills, you know that critical stage on the hill when you want to drop down a ring on the front mech ?
I can't do it thus only having 8 high gears, this alone i feel has raised my fitness very rapidly in such a short time, do any other members use this method?
And if you could reccommend a road bike for me budget 300-750
